Athlete Development
As a football referee, it is crucial to meet the ever increasing speed, endurance and athletic demands of sport. To meet these demands, it has always been essential that I take a holistic approach to training, which has been permitted by the expert guidance of the SEPSA team. During my time working with them, I've been able to transition from state to national level referee.

FAQs

Common questions we’re asked around referrals.

What does Athlete Development include?

Athlete Development combines Exercise Physiology, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation and performance coaching. Depending on your needs, training may focus on strength, power, speed, movement capacity, injury resilience, return to sport or long-term physical development.

Do I need to be an elite athlete?

No. SEPSA works with developing, recreational, competitive and high-performance athletes. The service is designed for anyone who wants structured, individualised support to improve their physical preparation and train more consistently.

Can you help if I am currently injured?

Yes, where Exercise Physiology support is appropriate. Rehabilitation can be integrated with your broader strength and performance program so you can rebuild capacity and progress towards training and competition. If further diagnosis or medical assessment is required, we will recommend an appropriate referral.

Can my program work around team training or another coach’s program?

Yes. Your SEPSA program can be structured around team sessions, skills training, endurance training, competition and recovery. The goal is to complement your existing training rather than simply add more work to an already demanding schedule.

Do you work with youth athletes?

Yes. Youth programs are age-appropriate and focus on developing strength, coordination, movement confidence and broad athletic foundations. Training considers the athlete’s stage of development, sporting demands and experience rather than placing them into a scaled-down adult program.

Do I need access to a gym?

Not necessarily. Your program can be developed around a commercial gym, home gym, limited equipment or available club facilities. We will discuss your equipment and training environment before building your program.

What sports do you support?

SEPSA supports athletes across individual, endurance, team, field and court sports. Programming is based on the physical demands of the athlete’s sport, position, training schedule and goals rather than relying on one generic approach.

Is Athlete Development available online?

Yes. Face-to-face assessment and coaching are available in Adelaide, while SEPSA OnTheGo provides individualised online coaching across Australia. We can help determine which pathway best suits your experience, location and support needs.

Do you work with sporting clubs and organisations?

Yes. SEPSA can provide assessment, physical testing, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation support and individualised athlete programming. Partnerships can support individual athletes, selected squads or broader club-development initiatives.

How often will I need to train?

Training frequency depends on your goals, sporting schedule, experience, recovery and current workload. For many athletes, one or two well-planned sessions each week can provide a meaningful stimulus when integrated properly with their existing training.

What happens during the initial assessment?

The initial assessment helps us understand your goals, sport, training history, injury considerations and current physical capacity. We then use this information to recommend your priorities, support pathway and next stage of programming.

How do I get started?

Select Get Started Today and tell us about your sport, goals and current challenges. We will review your information and guide you towards the most appropriate in-person or online starting point.
