Frequently Asked Questions

  • Exercise Physiology is an allied health profession that uses individualised, evidence-based exercise to support health, rehabilitation, and performance.

At SEPSA, our accredited Exercise Physiologists work with people managing injuries, chronic conditions, pain, or health concerns, as well as those looking to improve strength, fitness, and long-term physical capacity.

    Exercise Physiology focuses on:

    • Safe and structured exercise prescription

    • Understanding how your body responds to training

    • Long-term progression, not quick fixes

    • Building confidence and independence through movement

  • No referral is required to see an Exercise Physiologist at SEPSA.

However, if you’re accessing services through Medicare, DVA, or NDIS, a valid referral or plan from your GP or relevant provider is required. Our team can guide you through this process if you’re unsure what you need.

  • The majority of private health funds offer rebates for Exercise Physiology services under extras cover.

Rebate amounts and eligibility vary between funds and levels of cover, so we recommend checking directly with your provider. We’re happy to supply item numbers or information to assist with this.

  • The best service depends on your:

    • Exercise or performance goals

    • Health or injury considerations

    • Confidence with exercise

    • Training experience

    • Lifestyle and schedule

At SEPSA, we offer several pathways, including 1:1 Exercise Physiology, Small Group Exercise Physiology, and SEPSA OnTheGo. Many clients start with an initial assessment, which allows us to recommend the most appropriate option and create a clear pathway forward.

If you’re unsure, our team can help guide you, there’s no pressure to choose before speaking with us.

  • Yes.

Through SEPSA OnTheGo, we provide expert Exercise Physiology coaching to clients who can’t attend in person or prefer a more flexible option.

    This service includes:

    • An initial assessment (via Telehealth where appropriate)

    • Individualised exercise programming

    • Weekly check-ins and ongoing program updates

It’s ideal for busy professionals, remote clients, or anyone needing expert guidance that fits around real life.

  • While all three professions support movement and physical health, they have different roles.

    Exercise Physiology focuses on:

    • Long-term exercise prescription

    • Managing injuries, chronic conditions, and health concerns

    • Building capacity, and confidence through exercise

    Physiotherapy typically focuses on:

    • Diagnosis and treatment of acute injuries

    • Hands-on therapy (e.g. manual techniques)

    • Short-term injury management

    Personal Training generally focuses on:

    • Fitness and performance goals

    • Group or individual training sessions

    • Clients without medical or injury considerations

At SEPSA, Exercise Physiology sits between healthcare and performance, allowing us to safely support both rehabilitation and progression. This is often in collaboration with physiotherapists and other health professionals.
